This is a business-class, managed wireless access point (not a router). The first surprise we noticed about this access point is that it has a metal chassis, not flimsy plastic like so many of other access points. The second pleasant suprise is that D-Link includes the POE (power over Ethernet) injector in the box -- nice touch.
While the unit supports POE, you don't have to use it. The power adapter included with this unit plugs into either the access point or the POE injector.
This access point supports both 802.11b and 802.11g, as well as WEP, WPA Personal and Enterprise and WPA2 Persona/Enterprise. The unit broadcasts in the 2.4GHz range and has strong 54Mbps up to about 80' the settings we've installed it in.
You can manage the unit via a HTTPS web browser, but it also supports command line management through Telnet or SSH. Setup is a breeze, even for novice users, but experts will appreciate all of the granular configuration control D-Link has provided in this unit.
Frankly, this is one of the sturdiest, most reliable access points we've ever used in the under $300 price range.
